We no longer think of our childhood TV as video. Everywhere you look, people are talking about HDTV and 1080p. Gone are the days when all you had to do was plug the white and red jacks for audio and the yellow jack for video or be able to push the VHS tape into the player and have the movie simply come up and play!

Now we have to concern ourselves with video resolution, digital vs. analog, plasma vs. LCD, Satellite vs. Cable, DVD vs. BLU RAY, XBOX vs. PS3 or WII. What do you mean do I have DVI-I or DVI-D? Why won’t my BLU RAY with HDMI fit into any of my old TV jacks?
 It has become a jungle of information overload! People are so Hi-Def crazy that our Project Manager jokingly refers to it as High Defecation TV.
However, it is one thing when you have all those devices all in the same cabinet just below or beside the TV, but what happens when the HDMI cable manufacturer tells you the signal is not meant to go over about 15‚ and you need it to go from the rack in the closet to the ballroom screen 300‚ away while sending the signal to the front desk 800‚ away?
Video is much more involved and with all the choices and conflicting technologies, it takes insert cards, scalers, switchers, matrix devices, special cables, and knowing how to make it all work well – far beyond the normal understandings of most people.
